Points for People Foundation is an initiative to fight rising food insecurity and support local communities by redirecting unclaimed loyalty points from every partner to food banks and local organizations across Canada.
Every day, people shop at grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel stations without scanning a loyalty card. The points from those purchases disappear. Nobody collects them. Nobody benefits from them.
We are building a system where those points go to food banks instead. One scan at checkout is all it takes. The customer does nothing extra. The points that were going nowhere now go somewhere.
Points for People registers as a verified charity account inside Scene+. Our charity barcode is placed at participating store checkouts. When a customer has no loyalty card, they are asked if they want their points to go to a food bank. One scan. Done.
Existing Scene+ members can also donate their unused points directly inside the app. Points accumulate in our account, are redeemed as real dollar credits, and transferred to verified food banks and charities across Canada.
Scene+ has 15 million members and over 4,500 partner locations across Canada, including Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, FreshCo, Shell, Home Hardware, Cineplex, Lawtons, Harveys, Swiss Chalet, and more. At the same time, food banks in Canada recorded 2.2 million visits in a single month in 2025, the highest number ever recorded.
The loyalty points from those everyday purchases and the families at those food banks exist in the same cities. Points for People connects them.
Every point collected and every dollar distributed will be tracked and published publicly. This is permanent infrastructure, not a campaign. When we launch, a live public dashboard will show exactly where every point went and which organizations received support.
Points for People is an early-stage initiative started by Jaspreet Singh in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The idea came from a simple observation: rewards and points from loyalty programs at grocery stores, pharmacies, and retailers often go unused. When those points go unclaimed, they help no one. But they could. With the right system in place, those points could be redirected to food banks and charities, turning everyday purchases into real support for people in need.
If you have thoughts on this idea, whether you think it will work, what is missing, or what could be better, we genuinely want to hear them.
